Puerto Rico Shootout: Minnesota will open the spring season by traveling to Puerto Rico to take part in the Puerto Rico Shootout. The shootout, hosted by Purdue, will take place at the 6,219 yard, par 72 Coco Beach Golf Course. The Gophers will play in five spring events before taking part in the 2009 Big Ten Championships, at the  Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.

The tournament field includes (ranking): Florida State (60), Georgia (9), Indiana (54), Iowa State (70), Kent State (21), Michigan (45), Minnesota (67), North Carolina State (38), New Mexico (34), Northwestern (79), Oklahoma (68), Purdue (17), TCU (37), Tennessee (48), Texas Tech (51) and Wisconsin (69).

Fall Schedule Recap: Minnesota finished the 2008 fall schedule with a head-to-head team record of 35-28 (.556). The schedule consisted of five tournaments and the Gophers finished in the top-10 in four of them, highlighted by a second place finish in the Wolverine Invitational.

Individually, Teresa Puga finished with the lowest fall season scoring average in school history at 74.07 while Paige Bromen put together the 12th best fall scoring average in school history at 76.90. Puga and fellow sophomores Mary Narzisi and Michele Edlin were the only three Gophers to take part in all five events.

Vegas Showdown Recap: The Gophers regrouped after shooting a 304 in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and shot a 4-over par 292 in the final round to finish in 16th place (+21, 885).

Sophomore Teresa Puga used a 1-under par 71 to help her finish as the Gophers top player in the shootout with a 2-over par 218, good for a tie for 40th place. Senior Paige Bromen concluded her final fall collegiate event in a tie for 45th place with a score of 3-over 219. Sophomore's Michele Edlin, Mary Narzisi and Samantha Sommers finished in a tie for 63rd, 72nd and 87th, respectively.

Gophers Sign three to NLI’s: In November, Jackie Shepherd, Tori Stock and Jacki Marshall all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Gophers. All three players will be eligible to compete during the 2009 fall season.

Shepherd comes to Minnesota from Delafield, Wis. while Stock hails from Woodstock, Ill. and Marshall joins the Gophers from Carindale, Queensland in Australia. 

The Gophers: Minnesota’s lineup for the Puerto Rico Shootout will include senior Paige Bromen, sophomores  Michele Edlin, Mary Narzisi and Teresa Puga and freshman Courtney Massey. Senior Kelli Berns will be participating in the shootout as an individual. Massey will be making her Golden Gopher debut after joining the team for the spring semester.

Up Next: The Gophers will be off until March 6-8 when they will travel to Scottsdale, Ariz. to take part in the Rio Verde Invitational at the Quali Run at Rio Verde Country Club. Minnesota will also take part in the Shamrock Invitational (Mar. 20-22), the Indiana Invitational (Apr. 6-7) and the Lady Buckeye (Apr. 18-19) before the Big Ten Tournament (Apr. 24-26).
