Carmen Laguna fired a final round 74 on Sunday at Ole Miss Golf Course, meaning the sophomore from Spain improved each round for the Gophers. Minnesota’s stroke average leader finished in a tie for 34th place and paced the locals for the weekend with a three-day total of 225. She has now led the Gophers in five of the team’s nine tournaments on the season.
Minnesota finished the Rebel Intercollegiate in 15th place with a 54-hoile combined score of 920 (303-308-309). Coastal Carolina led the entire weekend and won the team title by nine strokes over Baylor with a score of 863.
Sophomore Anna Laorr and senior Jackie Shepherd both finished in a tie for 68th place with 54-hole scores of 233. Junior Banchalee Theinthong finished alone in 76th place with a 235 while Sarinee Thitiratanakorn finished in a tie for 81st place. Thitiratanakorn joined Laguna by improving each round. She opened with an 82 on Friday and followed that up with an 81 on Saturday and a 77 in the final round.
Minnesota will now take a few weeks to get ready for the 2013 Big Ten Championships April 26-28 in French Lick, Ind. The Gophers took eighth in last year’s championships.
