Two Minnesota women’s golfers are among the top-25 as the first round of the Meadow Club Women’s Collegiate concluded on Monday evening. The tournament got a delayed start in the morning due to frost, and as such, only one round was played instead of the scheduled two.
Senior Sabrine Garrison and freshman Joanne Free each carded 2-over-par 74 to sit among a 11-way tie for 23rd place. Another pair of Gophers were tied in freshmen Grace Kellar and Kate Lillie, each among a tie for 73rd after opening round scores of 8-over-par 80. Two shots behind is junior Muyu Wu, who is tied for 82nd.
Junior Maggie Heggerston, competing individually, also shot 8-over-par 80 to tie for 73rd.
Colorado’s Brittany Fan posted the day’s low round of 5-under-par 67, while Washington holds the round one team lead at 5-under-par 283. Minnesota is 14th through 18 holes, posting a team score of 20-over-par 308.
The Meadow Club Women’s Collegiate will conclude Tuesday, with the second round scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. PT.
