The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that University of Minnesota redshirt freshman center Amanda Zahui B. was named the Big Ten Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the third time this season after averaging 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game to be named to the Subway Classic All-Tournament Team.
Zahui tallied her sixth double-double of the season against UCLA Friday after finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks, before recording her second 16-point outing of the weekend in the victory over Auburn Sunday. She added seven rebounds and six blocks in 27 minutes of play against the Tigers.
The center is now tied with former Gopher Kim Bell for the No. 8 spot on Minnesota's single-season record chart with 42 blocks this season. Janel McCarville currently holds the record with 65 blocked shots during the 2003-04 season.
Zahui was also named the league's player and freshman of the week on Nov. 25 and Dec. 9.
