THE OPENING TIP - QUICK NOTES
The University of Minnesota women's basketball team is set to host Northern Iowa in a rematch of the 2012 WBI Championship on Friday, Dec. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Williams Arena.
Fans can watch a live stream of the contest vs. the Panthers on gophersports.com via Gopher All-Access and can also listen live on 1500 ESPN with Corbu Stathes and Lynnette Sjoquist on the call.
The Golden Gophers head into Friday's contest with a 9-3 record on the season following their, 82-60, victory vs. Robert Morris back on Dec. 9 at Williams Arena.
On the year, Minnesota boasts an impressive .470 field goal percentage, which ties Purdue for the 10th-best mark nationally and is tied for the second-highest percentage in the Big Ten behind Ohio State (.479).
Northern Iowa travels to Minneapolis with a 4-6 record on the season after dropping a home contest to Iowa State, 59-67, Monday night.
The Panthers currently rank 11th in the NCAA with an average of 8.4 three-point field goals per game. The squad made 14 three-pointers in their win vs. NC State on Nov. 25.
The Gophers are a perfect 8-0 in the all-time series vs. Northern Iowa and have outscored the Panthers, 639-491, in those games.
With 815 career points, sophomore Rachel Banham needs to score 185 points to become the 21st Gopher in program history to notch 1,000 career points.
This season, Banham ranks 25th nationally in points per game, 42nd in free throw percentage, 55th in assist turnover ratio, 69th in assists per game and 84 in field goal percentage.
The sophomore was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 10 after averaging 20.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals in Minnesota's wins vs. Denver, UMKC and Robert Morris.
The Gophers are 7-1 this season in games played at Williams Arena. The team's only loss came against Virginia on Nov. 29 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Minnesota is set to close out its non-conference schedule vs. Creighton on Dec. 30 at the Barn.
