University of Minnesota junior guard Rachel Banham was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. Banham averaged 25.5 points per game and was named the MVP of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown in helping the Gophers to a 3-1 record on the week.
Banham scored at least 17 points in each of Minnesota's contests against Loyola, Chattanooga, Colorado State and Hawaii, which included a season-high 36-point performance against the Mocs in the opening game of the Hawaii tournament. She added 25 points against the Rams and 24 points at Hawaii, extending her double-digit scoring streak to 25 games.
The junior notched a .593 (35-59) shooting percentage and a .607 (17-28) three-point field goal percentage in the quartet of contests, while adding a 2.5 assist-turnover ratio. Banham had 10 assists and just four turnovers during the stretch of games.
The junior from Lakeville, Minn., also moved into the top-10 on Minnesota's career scoring chart with 1,438 points.
The Gophers are back in action Thursday when they host Miami at Williams Arena for the 2013 Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Tip off for the game is set for 8:00 p.m. CT and it will be broadcast live on BTN.
