THE OPENING TIP - QUICK NOTES
The Minnesota women's basketball team will face No. 20/20 Kansas in its first and only non-conference road test of the season when it travels to Lawrence, Kan., Sunday. Tip off from Allen Fieldhouse is set for 2:00 p.m.
The contest will be broadcast live on Metro Sports and will also be streamed live on Jayhawks All-Access.
Fans can also listen to the contest live on 1500 ESPN. Corbu Stathes will provide play-by-play, with Lynnette Sjoquist serving as the analyst.
The Golden Gophers are 6-2 on the season and are coming off of a tough loss to Virginia in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday.
The Gophers' 10-game home winning streak came to an end in the 68-90 loss at Williams Arena.
Rachel Banham led Minnesota in scoring with 21 points, marking her third-straight contest with 20 or more points. The sophomore has scored in double-digits in 10-consecutive games, dating back to last season.
Freshman Shayne Mullaney made her first-career start vs. Virginia, scoring a career-high nine points to go along with four assists. She started in the place of Mikayla Bailey, who missed the game due to illness.
The contest at Kansas will serve as a homecoming for senior Leah Cotton, as the guard hails from Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from Olathe Christian High School in 2009.
Minnesota trails the Jayhawks, 13-3, in the all-time series, which dates back to March 17, 1978. The Gophers have yet to win a contest at Allen Fieldhouse, holding a 0-7 record at the venue.
In the teams' last meeting, the Gophers came away with a, 62-45, win on Dec. 5, 2004 at Williams Arena.
The No. 20/20 Jayhawks host Minnesota with a 6-0 record on the year and are coming off a, 101-47, victory vs. Grambling State on Wednesday.
Carolyn Davis leads the team with a 16.0 points per game average, while Tania Jackson paces Kansas with an average of 7.3 rebounds per game.
Jayhawk head coach Bonnie Henrickson has ties to the state of Minnesota, as she is a native of Willmar, Minn., and graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1986.
