THE OPENING TIP - QUICK NOTES
The University of Minnesota women's basketball team is set to host Northwestern on Sunday in its Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Game at Williams Arena. Tip off for the contest is set for 2:00 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on Gopher All-Access and the Big Ten Digital Network.
The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free pink "I heart the Gophers" t-shirt. Stick around postgame for a special showing of The Mighty Macs, which will begin 15 minutes after the conclusion of the game.
Fans can listen to the game live on KBEM Jazz 88.5 FM or for free through Stretch Internet on GopherSports.com with Corbu Stathes and Lynnette Sjoquist on the call.
Minnesota enters the contest with a 15-10 overall record and a 4-7 league mark after falling on the road at Illinois last weekend, placing it eighth in Big Ten standings.
The Maroon and Gold leads the Big Ten and ranks 12th nationally in field goal percentage with a .452 mark.
Northwestern makes its first trip to Williams Arena since Jan. 27, 2011, with an 11-13 record on the season and a 3-8 Big Ten Conference record following back-to-back home losses vs. Nebraska and Ohio State.
The Wildcats currently hold down the No. 10 spot in league standings with their 3-8 conference mark.
Minnesota and Northwestern will be meeting on the hardwood for the 63rd time, with the Gophers trailing the Wildcats, 29-33, in the all-time series.
Minnesota does hold the advantage in the series when playing at home, boasting a 16-11 record vs. Northwestern in Minneapolis.
Twelve of Minnesota's 15 victories this season have come at the friendly confines of Williams Arena, as the Gophers are 12-3 on their home court.
Sophomore Rachel Banham is the Big Ten's leading scorer with a points-per-game average of 21.4.
The guard also ranks ninth nationally in free throw percentage and 10th in points per game.
In the Gophers' last three home games, Rachel Banham has been putting on a show for the crowd at the Barn.
In contests vs. Illinois, Michigan and Iowa at Williams Arena, Banham posted 103 points, an average of 34.3 points per game.
