The University of Minnesota women's basketball team is set to host its annual breast cancer awareness game on Sunday, Feb. 9, when it takes on Illinois in a 2:00 p.m. showdown at Williams Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in helping the Gophers "Box Out Breast Cancer," with the first 1,000 fans through the gate to receive free pink t-shirts and pink pom-poms.
The Gophers will be teaming up with Susan G. Komen Minnesota and The Art of Well to help spread awareness and help in the fight against breast cancer. Both organizations will provide information and resources on ways fans can aid in the battle at tables in the concourse before and during the game.
The contest will also serve as Minnesota Girls and Women in Sports Day, where the team will celebrate all girls and women in sports. The showcase of this event will be a post-game autograph session for youth in attendance which will feature female student-athletes from select Gopher teams. A limited number of pink MGWSD shirts will be distributed to female youth 8th grade and under as part of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
