The Gophers Host Michigan State This Sunday!

The Gophers are hauling in Big Ten hardware for the third straight week. Destiny Pitts earned her fourth Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor of the season and Kenisha Bell notched a spot on the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll for the third week in a row, the conference announced Tuesday.

Pitts stayed hot behind the arc last week going 10-21 on three pointers. She recorded a double-double against Northwestern with 22 points and 11 rebounds. She now has four double-doubles on the season. Against Nebraska she recorded 11 points and five rebounds. She started the game with three straight three-pointers for nine first quarter points. Pitts has now won Four B1G Freshman of the Week plaudits which is tied for the most by any freshman this season.

Bell put up a 26-point performance in the Gophers Big Ten opening victory over Northwestern and followed it up with a 30-point day Nebraska. She recorded a double-double against the Wildcats with 10 assists and also added a season high five steals. In 71 minutes of play Bell only committed one turnover at the point guard position last week. She has now had six straight games with 20 or more points scored. Bell is first in the conference in assists per game (6.5) and fourth in points per game (21.7).

The Gophers hit the road to face Ohio State on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. and will be back home against Michigan State on Sunday, Jan. 7 with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
