Redshirt freshman Travis Burkstrand won the individual title at the St. Olaf Opener on Saturday. Burkstand covered the 5-kilometer course in a time of 15 minutes, 39 seconds. Minnesota did not compete as a team in the event.
Matt Volz finished third in a time of 15:52 and was followed by Joe McFarland in fourth (16:17) and Nick Hutton in fifth (16:20). Also competing for the Gophers was David Krueger, who placed 17th (16:53).
Minnesota returns to action on Friday, Sept. 11, when the Gophers host the Oz Memorial Run.
