MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – The 32nd annual Roy Griak Invitational highlights the 2017 Gopher men’s cross country schedule with the Maroon & Gold slated to compete in seven events heading into the NCAA championship season.

Minnesota kicks off the 2017 campaign with a preview of the Big Ten championships course as the Gophers run at Indiana’s IU Open on Saturday, Sept. 2. The eight-kilometer men’s race is scheduled for 8:20 a.m. CT at the IU Championship Cross Country Course.

The home schedule opens six days later with the Oz Memorial on Friday, Sept. 8 at Les Bolstad Golf Course. The men’s four-mile race will be ran at 7 p.m. CT.

The Maroon & Gold are back at Les Bolstad Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 23 for the 32nd annual running of the Roy Griak Invitational. Named in honor of legendary Gophers coach Roy Griak, the meet has developed into one of the top high school and collegiate competitions in the country. The Merrill Fischbein Men’s Gold (Division I) Competition is slated to run at 12:20 p.m. CT as an eight-kilometer race.

After concluding the home schedule with the Griak, the Gophers will split up to open October with a pair of eight-kilometer races in Wisconsin. One group of competitors will head to the Wisconsin NuttyCombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Friday, Oct. 13 with the Gophers running at the Zimmer Championship Course at 11 a.m. CT. Another group will be in action on Saturday, Oct. 14 at UW-La Crosse’s Jim Drews Invitational, held at the Ettrick Golf Club in Ettrick, Wis.

Minnesota returns to Indiana’s IU Championship Cross Country Course on Sunday, Oct. 29 for the 2017 Big Ten Cross Country Championships before closing out the regular season with St. John’s Fall Finale on Friday, Nov. 3 at the Collegeville Trails in Collegeville, Minn. Both races will be ran as eight-kilometer competitions.

The NCAA schedule begins on Friday, Nov. 10 with the NCAA Midwest Regional, held in Ames, Iowa. Iowa State hosts the 10-kilometer race at the ISU Cross Country Course.

The 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships is set for Saturday, Nov. 18 at Louisville’s E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park. The 10-kilometer race will stand as the 80th men’s cross country national championship in NCAA history.
