Gophers Tie for Third, Set New Personal Records at Big Ten Championships

Senior All-American Hassan Mead finished fourth overall at the 2011 Big Ten Cross Country Championships this morning with a time of 23:29. The Gophers scored a total of 104 points to finish in a tie for third with Michigan.  No. 2 Wisconsin won the overall team title with 17 team points. The Badgers have now won the last 13 Big Ten Cross Country Championships. No. 7 Indiana finished second overall with 60 points.

Despite finishing in a tie for third place, all nine Gophers set new personal best times.

Pieter Gagnon and Andrew Larsen finished 16th and 17th respectively. The pair clocked in at 24:17 and it was second time in a row that they each finished with the same time.

Marcus Paulson clocked in at 24:31 for 29th place, while Erik Truedson finished with a time of 24:40, which was good for 38th place.

Rounding out the top seven for Minnesota were Steve Sulkin (49th 24:53) and Travis Burkstrand (56th 25:14).

Also running for Minnesota were Paul Hilsen (25:19) and Bob Nicolls (25:38).

The Gophers will next run at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday November 12, at Northern Illinois University. Some team members will race at the Fall Finale on November 4.

Note: Mead was named to the First-Team All-Big Ten Conference Team
