The University of Minnesota men's cross country program returned to action with a 12th-place finish at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational.
Behind top-10 performances from Charlie Lawrence, Evan Ferlic and Connor Olson, the Maroon & Gold totaled 50 points in the eight-kilometer race.
The women's six-kilometer race is slated for 11 a.m. CT with the men's 10-kilometer competition following at noon.
Ali continues a dominant history at the meet by the Maroon & Gold that dates back to David Van Orsdel’s win in 2006.

Redshirted • opened the year with a 23rd-place showing at the four-mile Oz Memorial (20:59.0) • finished 234th at the eight-kilometer Roy Griak Invitational (28:15.4) • closed out the college season with a runner-up finish at the eight-kilometer Fall Finale (25:49) • also finished second at the 2016 Twin Cities 5K (14:57).
A 2016 graduate of Hopkins High School • a five-time all-state honoree (twice in cross country, three times in track) and a four-time all-conference honoree (twice in cross country, twice in track) • served as captain of the cross country and track & field programs • 10-time letter winner at Hopkins (five in track, five in cross country) • high school teammates with fellow Gopher Hunter Staack • coached as a prep by Andrea Yesnes, Nick Lovas and Mike Harris • earned Academic Achievement honors all four years of high school and was Hopkins' 2016 Triple A Award winner.

A native of Plymouth, Minn., Hussein signed his National Letter of Intent with the Gophers last month after winning the 2017 MSHSL Class AA Cross Country Championship.
