High School: Graduated from Dassel-Cokato High School in 2012 • high school coach was Brian Bessingpas • a three-time All-State honoree (2009-11) • a four-time state qualifier (2008-11) • finished third in the 2011 Minnesota Class AA State Championship with a time of 15:40.1 (personal best), behind current Gopher teammates Josh Thorson and Riley Macon • third-place finish was a personal best at the state meet for Koivisto after placing 18th in 2010, ninth in 2009 and 78th in 2008 • the individual medalist at the 2011 Wright County Conference Championships with a time of 16:17.88 • also represented Dassel-Cokato at state with the track team.
