Ali Breaks School 10K Record at NCAA Midwest Regional

A native of Richfield, Minn., Obsa Ali finished the 10-kilometer race at the ISU Cross Country Course in 29:23.06, besting Plasencia’s 29:26.0 from the 1976 NCAA Championships.


Ali Leads Gophers in Madison

The University of Minnesota men's cross country program returned to action with a 12th-place finish at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational.


Three Gophers Post Top-25 Marks at Griak

Competing at Les Bolstad Golf Course, Charlie Lawrence, Obsa Ali and Derek Wiebke were among the top-25 while Minnesota totaled 135 points in fourth place.


`U' Finishes Second at IU Open

Behind top-10 performances from Charlie Lawrence, Evan Ferlic and Connor Olson, the Maroon & Gold totaled 50 points in the eight-kilometer race.

The Maroon & Gold combined for 205 points at Friday’s 10-kilometer race in Iowa City, Iowa.

Competed in five races • opened the year with a 21st-place showing at the four-mile Oz Memorial (20:51.7) • improved his eight-kilometer personal record in three-straight meets -- finishing 88th at the Roy Griak Invitational (26:25.1), 168th at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational (25:49.0) and 46th at the Big Ten championships (25:38.3) • made his NCAA debut with a 61st-place finish at the 10-kilometer NCAA Midwest Regional (31:33.7) • Academic All-Big Ten • earned first letter. 

Redshirted the 2015 cross country season while competing in two races as an unattached competitor • opened the season at the Oz Memorial with a 15th-place finish and a time of 19:40.6 • finished 167th at the Griak Invitational, clocking a 27:49.4.


Graduated from Chaska High School in 2015 • six-time all-state honoree (three cross country, three track) • eight-time all-conference honoree (three cross country, three track, two Nordic skiing • finished second at the 2014 MSHSL Class 2A Cross Country Championships behind Gophers classmate Connor Olson • set four school records • earned a total of 12 letters as a prep (four cross country, five track, three Nordic skiing • competed for Nate Foss, Jesse Longly and Kyle Zygarlicke at Chaska High School • earned the AP Scholar Award and was an academic all-state honoree.
