A native of Richfield, Minn., Obsa Ali finished the 10-kilometer race at the ISU Cross Country Course in 29:23.06, besting Plasencia’s 29:26.0 from the 1976 NCAA Championships.

The Gophers totaled 142 points in the men’s eight-kilometer competition, which was hosted by Indiana at the IU Championship Cross Country Course.

2016 | REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON
Competed in five meets • finished 32nd at the four-mile Oz Memorial (21:20.5) • came in 166th at the eight-kilometer Roy Griak Invitational (27:12.2) • posted eight-kilometer personal records in back-to-back meets -- finishing 163rd at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational (25:43.5) and following up with a 39th-place showing at the Big Ten championships (25:30.7) • closed out the season with his NCAA debut, finishing 119th at the 10-kilometer NCAA Midwest Regional (32:43.2) • Academic All-Big Ten • earned first letter. 

2015 | FRESHMAN SEASON
Redshirted the 2015 cross country season while competing in three meets as an unattached runner • opened the year with a 20th-place finish at the Oz Memorial, finishing in 19:51.9 • ran at the Griak Invitational and finished in 27:18.4 to place 138th • closed out the season with a fifth-place finish at the Fall Finale, clocking a 25:34.

Graduated from Mounds Park Academy in 2015 • a member of Mounds Park Academy’s 4x800 meter relay squad that won the 2014 MSHSL Class A State Championship • named an all-state honoree during the 2014 cross country season • seven-time all-conference honoree • helped Mounds Park Academy record a runner-up finish at the 2013 MSHSL Class A Cross Country Championships • earned a total of 10 athletic letters (four cross country, four track, two Nordic skiing) and was a four-year academic letter winner • ran cross country for coach Dan Ethier and track for coach Bev Docherty• appeared on the Honor Roll every semester of high school • Science Award/Scholarship honoree • member of the National Honor Society.
