A native of Richfield, Minn., Obsa Ali finished the 10-kilometer race at the ISU Cross Country Course in 29:23.06, besting Plasencia’s 29:26.0 from the 1976 NCAA Championships.
The Gophers totaled 142 points in the men’s eight-kilometer competition, which was hosted by Indiana at the IU Championship Cross Country Course.
The University of Minnesota men's cross country program returned to action with a 12th-place finish at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational.
Competing at Les Bolstad Golf Course, Charlie Lawrence, Obsa Ali and Derek Wiebke were among the top-25 while Minnesota totaled 135 points in fourth place.
The women's six-kilometer race opens the competition at 6:30 p.m. CT with the men's four-mile race scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.

Redshirted the 2015 cross country season while competing in three meets as an unattached runner • opened the year with a 20th-place finish at the Oz Memorial, finishing in 19:51.9 • ran at the Griak Invitational and finished in 27:18.4 to place 138th • closed out the season with a fifth-place finish at the Fall Finale, clocking a 25:34.
