A native of Richfield, Minn., Obsa Ali finished the 10-kilometer race at the ISU Cross Country Course in 29:23.06, besting Plasencia’s 29:26.0 from the 1976 NCAA Championships.
The Gophers totaled 142 points in the men’s eight-kilometer competition, which was hosted by Indiana at the IU Championship Cross Country Course.
The University of Minnesota men's cross country program returned to action with a 12th-place finish at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational.
Competing at Les Bolstad Golf Course, Charlie Lawrence, Obsa Ali and Derek Wiebke were among the top-25 while Minnesota totaled 135 points in fourth place.
Behind top-10 performances from Charlie Lawrence, Evan Ferlic and Connor Olson, the Maroon & Gold totaled 50 points in the eight-kilometer race.

Redshirted • represented the Gophers in the men's junior eight-kilometer race at the 2017 USATF Cross Country Championships, finishing 19th (27:54.0) • ran in three additional races as an unattached competitor • came in third at the eight-kilometer Fall Finale (25:55), finished 22nd in the four-mile Oz Memorial (20:55.2) and came in 135th at the eight-kilometer Roy Griak Invitational (26:54.9).
A 2016 graduate of Green Bay Southwest High School • the 2015 Fox River Classic Conference cross country champion and the 2015 WIAA Division I state runner-up • a first team all-state selection by the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association • the 2015 Press-Gazette Media's boys cross country runner of the year • holds the Green Bay Southwest school cross country record (15:48.03) • also won Fox River Classic Conference titles in the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters as a senior in 2016 • competed for Jerry Feldhausen • began competing in cross country as a senior after previously playing football.
