2009-10 Season Opener The Golden Gophers are set to open the 2009-10 season at the annual Bison Open. This will mark the fifth consecutive season that the Gophers have opened up at the Bison Open.
The Records The Gophers are coming off a season where they posted a 15-8 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the Big Ten. Minnesota was fifth place in the Big Ten in the regular season as well as fifth at the Big Ten Championships. At the NCAA Championships the Gophers finished in 14th.
Last Match-Up Last year at the Bison Open the Gophers had an impressive showing, claiming titles at eight weight classes. When they were not winning titles, the Gophers still had their wrestlers in the top-four of their respective weight class.

Next Up Next week, the Gophers continue their early season schedule of open tournaments. On Nov. 21, Minnesota travels to Nebraska-Omaha for the annual Kaufman Brand Open. One of the biggest open meets it the country every year, last season at the Kaufman-Brand, the Gophers won two individual titles.

100 Years of Gopher Wrestling In 2009-10, Golden Gopher Wrestling will celebrate their 100th year. In the inaugural season of 1910, the legacy of Gopher Wrestling began with it's first conference title at the Western Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships. This season will be a year-long celebration of 12 conference titles, 85 individual conference titles, three national titles, 19 individual national titles and the continuing pursuit of excellence that is Gopher Wrestling.
Preseason Rankings In the preseason, the Gophers have been tabbed as fifth in the nation by two publications. Their first No. 5 ranking came from Wrestling Insider News magazine, where they earned 50 points, behind first place Iowa with 90 points. Then in the USA Today/NWCA/InterMat Poll, the Gophers tallied 63 points for fifth place, with Iowa again in first.
