GopherSports: Why did you choose to come to Minnesota?
Brandon Kingsley: I have always wanted to ever since I was a kid.
GS: What other schools did you consider?
BK: Minnesota was the only school I considered.
GS: How did you get started in wrestling?
BK: My father got my two older brothers into it when he found out we had a local in-house program. A year later, when I was old enough, I wanted to join after seeing how much fun they had.
GS: When did you realize that competing in college was something you wanted to do and could do?
BK: After my freshman year in high school when I got my first college letter about wrestling it made me realize that I was capable of competing in college.
GS: Your brother Jordan is also a Gopher for the wrestling team. What is it like competing alongside him?
BK: Jordan and I have been on the same team since we started wrestling so to me it’s no different from the rest of my life. It’s fun.
GS: Did you receive any advice or influence from your dad or your brother when you were making your college decision?
BK: They were very clear about it being my choice from the start. I’m sure they both had their opinions on where they wanted me to go but in the end it was 100% my choice.
GS: What are you most looking forward to about starting college?
BK: Getting back into wrestling after a summer of not so much wrestling.
GS: What are some of your goals for your first season as a Golden Gopher?
BK: I haven’t set any big goals yet but a few smaller goals are adjusting to the new intensity of college wrestling and getting more aggressive on the mat.
GS: What has been your favorite wrestling moment?
BK: When I scored 200th win and 150th pin in same tournament.
GS: You listed your major as kinesiology. What draws you to that field?
BK: It’s a stepping stone to the career I want to have after college as a chiropractor. Freshmen FavoritesFavorite Pre-Match Meal: Uncrustable, fruit cup and chocolate milkFavorite Animal: DogFavorite Video Game: Call of Duty (whatever the most recent one is)Favorite Movie: Shawshank Redemption
