Oct. 8, 2013
The 2013 NWCA All-Star Classic presented by GWWBN - Greater Washington Business Network will feature two University of Minnesota All-American wrestlers. Redshirt senior Tony Nelson and redshirt junior Scott Schiller will compete in the event on Nov. 2, 2013 at Patriot Center at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
Nelson, two time NCAA Heavyweight National Champion and three-time All-American, will be matched up with Mike McMullan, a junior heavyweight of Northwestern University. Nelson lead the Golden Gophers in 2013 with an overall record of 33-1. He was the Big Ten and NCAA Champion for the second-consecutive year and was undefeated in overall and conference dual competition in 2013. Nelson finished the 2013 regular season with a 17-0 dual record and was undefeated, 8-0, in the Big Ten.
This will be a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Championships where Nelson defeated McMullan to earn his second-consecutive national title. Nelson was able to come out on top with a 5-2 decision.
Competing at 197 pounds, Schiller will take on Taylor Meeks of Oregon State. Schiller finished fifth at the NCAA Championships last year. He was able to finish with an overall record of 26-4 in 2013 and went 10-6 versus ranked opponents. He was undefeated against Big Ten opponents and was named to both the Academic-All Big Ten team and the NWCA All-Academic Top 30 team at the conclusion of last season.
