Season tickets and single match tickets are now available for the University of Minnesota Wrestling 2017-2018 season.
The Gophers will host six home matches this season, with season tickets starting at $60 this year, and are available immediately. Single match tickets start at $10 with youth/senior tickets at $5 and University of Minnesota students get into all home matches for free with their student ID.
Minnesota will begin their home schedule against Air Force on Nov. 12 at Maturi Pavilion. The dual will mark the first wrestling event under the newly named facility. After a few road trips, the Gophers will return home on Dec. 10 to take on Fresno State at 1:00 p.m. before they wrap up for finals and the holidays. Fresno State recently was reinstated back into the Mountain West Conference, after the program was cut in 2006.
The Marron and Gold will return to action and begin Big Ten action on Jan. 7 when they host Michigan State at 1:00 p.m. Last season the Gophers downed the Spartans 20-17 in East Lansing, and have defeated the Spartans in dual action nine straight times.
A week later the Gophers will return home for two straight Big Ten home duals, first with Illinois on Jan. 14 followed by Michigan on Jan. 21. The Gophers and Wolverines will meet up in a battle of two NCAA top-10 teams from last season. In their last meeting, Minnesota knocked off the No. 10 ranked Wolverines with one match remaining in the dual.
On Jan. 28 the Gophers will wrap up their home season with a dual against Northwestern. The dual will mark the first time in over three years that Northwestern visits Minneapolis.
The Gophers return two All-Americans from their 2017 team that finished seventh at the NCAA Championships. Ethan Lizak was the runner-up last season at 125 last season, and Tommy Thorn finished eighth in 141 for the Maroon and Gold in March. As a team, the Gophers have been a part of the top-10 at the NCAA Championships 19 of the past 21 seasons.
Over the offseason, sophomore Mitch McKee traveled to Tempere, Finland and took second in the Junior World Championships in exhilarating fashion. He will look to return to NCAA form this season at 133.
With the start of the regular season less than two months away, make sure you are following the Gophers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram so you do not miss any Gopher action this season.
