The Gophers are looking forward to what should be a very exciting season. Minnesota finished second to Oklahoma State at the 2006 NCAA Championships and return seven NCAA qualifiers and four All-Americans from last year’s team. Cole Konrad will seek to defend his individual title at heavyweight and has a shot at breaking Tim Hartung’s school record of 58 consecutive wins. The senior from Freedom, Wis., finished 41-0 last season. Also seeking to defend his individual crown will be sophomore Dustin Schlatter (149), who last year became the first freshman in school history to win an NCAA individual wrestling title. Minnesota’s other returning All-Americans are juniors Mack Reiter (133) and Roger Kish (184).
The Golden Gophers open the 2006-07 wrestling season on Nov. 11, at the Bison Open in Fargo, N.D.
