Jake Deitchler, who qualified for the Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling team at the U.S. Olympic trials in Las Vegas on June 14, was featured on KARE's '11 Questions' segment last week. Deitchler is set to begin his Minnesota wrestling career this fall.
Deitchler (Anoka, Minn.) won the 66 kg. title at the Trials with a win over Faruk Sahin after a stunning upset victory over heavily favored Harry Lester in the semifinal round. The three-time MSHSL state wrestling champion will be in Colorado Springs, Colo. at the USA Wrestling training center for the next few weeks before heading to Beijing in August. Deitchler is just the third high school wrestler in history to qualify for the U.S. Olympic team.
