The 2007 NCAA Champion Minnesota wrestling team showed off its national championship trophy Wednesday night at the Twins-Yankees game at the Metrodome.

Nearly the entire Golden Gopher roster and coaching staff was in attendance as the team was honored on the field during a pre-game ceremony. Each member of the team was introduced in front of the announced crowd of 30,131 as photos of the team’s national championship celebration were displayed on the big screen.

Two-time All-American and long-time Twins fanatic Mack Reiter had the privilege of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, and as the team walked off the field they were greeted by Twins players, manager Ron Gardenhire and other members of the coaching staff.

During the seventh-inning stretch, 10 members of the Gopher wrestling team led the crowd in the tradition of singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Jake Mellmer, C.P. Schlatter, Dustin Schlatter and Matt Everson led the group, which also included Gabe Dretsch, Scott Glasser, Nate Matousek, Joe Nord, Tyler Safratowich and Danny Williams.

The Twins followed with an inspiring performance of their own, scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on their way to a 5-1 victory over the Yankees.

The Golden Gopher wrestling team will hold its annual banquet this Sunday at the Four Points Sheraton in Minneapolis. Social hour begins at 4:30 p.m., with dinner and a program to follow beginning at 6 p.m. For more information, click here.
