The No. 5 Minnesota wrestling program returns to action this week at the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia. The Wells Fargo Center will host the three-day, six-session event.
Minnesota will send nine competitors to this year's national championship with the Gophers represented in nine of the 10 weight classes (157 is the only weight class without a Minnesota competitor). All nine competitors earned automatic bids to the national championship after placing at the Big Ten championships.
Follow the Action
For the first-time ever, ESPN, ESPNU and ESPN3.com will combine to air all six rounds of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship. ESPNU HD will serve as the home of the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds Friday, March 18, starting at 10:30 a.m. and the medal round on Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. ESPN3.com will exclusively air the first and second rounds on Thursday, March 17, beginning at 11 a.m., and provide individual coverage of all four mats of the quarterfinals. ESPN HD and ESPN3.com will present the final round on Saturday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. Live stats, a running blog and updates will be made available throughout the championships on Gophersports.com and the Golden Gopher Wrestling social media sites.

One Last Shot
Two members of the Minnesota wrestling team will close out there careers this week at the national tournament. Mike Thorn (141) and Scott Glasser (174) are making their final appearances at the NCAA championship after noteworthy careers at Minnesota. Both rank among the top 50 career victories at Minnesota while Thorn ranks ninth in school history with 35 pins.
The Road to Philadelphia
Minnesota has fielded one of the toughest schedules in the country in 2010-11 -- having taken on 12 nationally ranked programs. The Gophers are 7-4-1 against ranked opponents this year while all four losses have come against top-five teams.

New to the Championships
Four Gophers will make their first NCAA championships appearance this week including a pair of seeded grapplers. Kevin Steinhaus and Tony Nelson will each debut at the NCAA tournament as the No. 8 seeds after both Gophers picked up runner-up finishes at the Big Ten championships in the 184 and 285 weight classes, respectively. They will be joined by David Thorn (133) and Danny Zilverberg (149) will head into the weeekend as unseeded entries. All four are redshirt freshman.
