After helping the Gophers to victory last night, redshirt sophomore Scott Schiller has been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, as announced today by the conference office. The weekly award is the first of his career and is the first garnered by a Gopher since Cody Yohn was picked on Feb. 21, 2012.
As the No. 12 rank at 197 lbs., Schiller posted a 4-2 decision over sixth-ranked Mario Gonzalez in last night’s 18-14 win against Illinois. His upset victory gave the Gophers a 15-14 lead and allowed for the comeback that kept the team undefeated in the Big Ten. The West Fargo, N.D. native holds a 16-3 overall record on the season, including a perfect 5-0 rate of success in conference action.
Schiller, along with the rest of the Maroon and Gold, hope to use their momentum and extend success into the upcoming dual against Iowa this Saturday at 3 p.m.
