OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Session III of the 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. was jam packed with upsets as four Golden Gophers navigated their way through the session to advance to the semifinal round set for Friday evening at 7 p.m. CT.

Defending back-to-back heavyweight champion Tony Nelson will be joined by Dylan Ness, Logan Storley and Scott Schiller in their quest for individual national titles while David Thorn, Chris Dardanes, Danny Zilverberg and Kevin Steinhaus will all compete in the consoloation rounds. Nick Dardanes hopes of All-America honors have been dashed as the No. 2 seed fell in his second match of the morning.

In the team race, Minnesota moved to second place with 59.0 total points while reigning champion Penn State continues to hold the top spot with 61.0 points. Oklahoma State is not far behind in third place with 56.0 team points. Rounding out the top five is Iowa with 42.5 points and Cornell with 39.5 points. During the dual meet season, the Gophers have defeated all four teams that join them in the top five.

Ness was the first Golden Gopher to earn his place in the semifinals as he was paired with the No. 1 seed at 157, junior James Green of Nebraska. The underdog pressure did not seem to phase Ness as he was able to tally his 12th fall of the season and third of the tournament to upset the top-ranked Green at 3:36.

No. 6 seed Storley followed suit was next to secure a spot in the semifinal round. In a hard fought battle, lasting through regulation, two sudden victory periods and two tiebreaker periods, Storley was able to come away with the Gophers second upset on the day with the 6-4 victory. Locked up at 4-4 going into the second tiebreaker period, Storley was able to tally two points with a last second takedown to send No. 3 seed Robert Kokesh of Nebraska to the consolation bracket.

Redshirt junior Scott Schiller met familiar opponent Kevyn Gadson of Iowa State in the quarterfinals and was able to come away with the 6-4 decision in regulation despite a late comeback attempt by Gadson. This was the second time in the tournament where Schiller has avenged an earlier loss as he was defeated by Gadson in the Gophers last dual of the season on Feb. 23 in Ames, Iowa.

Top-ranked heavyweight Nelson collected his second pin of the tournament and earned his fourth All-American honors by defeating Wisconsin's No. 9 seed Connor Medbery at 1:26. Nelson had defeated Medbery earlier this season when the Badgers traveled to the Sports Pavilion.

After losses in the quarterfinals Thorn and Steinhaus will join C. Dardanes and Zilverberg, who both notched two wins during the morning session, in the consolation round of competition this evening.

Nick Dardanes was the only Gopher to be eliminated from the competition. After winning by MF in his first wrestleback match, Dardanes fell to David Habat of Edinboro by a 9-3 decision.

Tonight's rounds will determine the tournaments All-Americans as the top eight finishers in each bracket will earn the honorable status.

Action will pick up again tonight at 7 p.m. CT with the semifinal bouts and two rounds of consolation. Fans will be able to follow through live video on ESPN and live stats at trackwrestling.com.
