MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – The University of Minnesota men’s track & field program has been honored as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track & Field Team while four members of the Gophers squad have earned USTFC CCA All-Academic honors.
One of 116 teams in the nation to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team honors this year, the Gophers were one of four Big Ten schools to earn distinction this year. To be eligible for the accolade, teams must list a cumulate team GPA of 3.00 or higher with Minnesota boasting a 3.07 GPA as a program this season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards. For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
The four Gophers were among 52 honorees from the Big Ten, which led all conferences this year, while 496 men from 165 institutions were named USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees this year.

Blankenship, Mead Shine in Olympic Finals
Mead and Blankenship recorded the best Olympic finishes by Gophers since Staffan Strand finished sixth in the high jump for Sweden during the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
