EUGENE, Ore. (GopherSports.com) -- Bryan Bjerk of the University of Minnesota men's track & field program finished eighth in the discus at the 2014 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships over the weekend.

Throwing as an unattached competitor at Oregon's Hayward Field, Bjerk cleared a new personal record with his throw of 55.05 meters (180.07 ft.).

The mark bests the Grand Forks, N.D., native's previous record of 54.98 meters (180-04 ft.) set earlier this season in a winning effort at the Musco Twilight on May 5.

Kord Ferguson won the discus competition this weekend with a toss of 61.28 meters (201-00 ft.).
