Gophers Stay Local in Final Tune-Ups Before Big Tens

MINNEAPOLIS -- With the 2013 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships one week away, the Minnesota men's outdoor track and field team will send competitors to a pair of local meets this weekend in final preparation for the conference meet next week in Columbus.
The Gophers will open the weekend on Friday at the NDSU Tune-Up in Fargo with a small contingency in action before the majority of student-athletes head to St. Paul on Saturday for the Meet of the Unsaintly at Hamline.
The Gophers open the weekend at the 2013 NDSU Tune-Up at Schlanser Track and the Ellig Sports Complex in Fargo, N.D.
Field events are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday with the women’s hammer throw. Running events will begin with the 3,000m steeplechase at 3:45 p.m.
The NDSU Tune-Up Meet is expected to include also include student-athletes from North Dakota, South Dakota State, Manitoba and the University of Mary.
Meet of the Unsaintly
After taking a year off from the Meet of the Unsaintly in 2012, the Gophers return to the Hamline-hosted competition this season. Klas Field will host the Meet of the Unsaintly.
While the meet officially gets underday on Friday at 3 p.m. with the hammer throw, the majority of events are scheduled for Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
