April 11, 2013
MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 22 Minnesota men's outdoor track and field team contiues the 2013 campaign this weekend with a pair of meets. The Gophers will send contingencies to the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Bear Cat Open in St. Paul. Both meets are slated for Saturday, April 13.
Bear Cat Open Preview
Minnesota was originally scheduled to compete in a pair of local meets this weekend (the TomCat Invite and the Holst Invitational), however the two competitions were merged into one due to inclement weather. St. Thomas' Anderson Athletic Recreation Complex will host Saturday's regional meet. More information -- including pertinent weather updates -- will be posted as they become available.
John McDonnell Invitational Preview
The Gophers, who have already seen top national competition at the Baldy Castillo Invitational and the Stanford Invitational this year, may very well see their toughest competition of the season this weekend in Fayetteville. National No. 1 Texas A&M and No. 2 (and 2013 NCAA indoor champ) Arkansas will field competitors at the meet along with Kansas, No. 15 Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. This weekend's meet is named for former Arkansas head coach John McDonnell, who won a total of 40 NCAA championships with the Razorbacks track and field and cross country programs.
