MINNEAPOLIS – Just a week after closing out the indoor season at the NCAA championships, the Minnesota men’s track and field team returns to action this weekend for the start of the 2013 outdoor season.
The Gophers will bring a full squad of 34 competitors to the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., this weekend. Arizona State hosts the Friday-Saturday meet with Texas A&M and Kansas State also on deck to compete.
Arizona State will provide live stats and a running blog (Saturday only) on TheSunDevils.com. Gophersports.com will have updates following each day of competition.
Minnesota is coming off an indoor season that saw the Gophers tie for 12th at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with nine Gophers earning a collective 12 All-America Honors. Harun Abda picked up three accolades (800-meters, 4x400 relay, distance medley relay) and Cameron Boy was a two-time winner (4x400 relay, DMR) while Travis Burkstrand (DMR), Nick Hutton (DMR), John Simons (one mile), Goaner Deng (4x400), Jacob Capek (4x400), Micah Hegerle (weight throw) and Jon Lehman (weight throw) also picked up All-America honors.
