MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota men's track & field program opens the 2013 indoor season this Saturday with the Northwest Open - the first of three home meets at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse this season.
Saturday's season opener is set to kick off at 11 a.m. CT with regional teams including North Dakota, St. Cloud State, St. Scholastica, Concordia-St. Paul, St. Thomas, Hamline, Minnesota State-Moorhead and Minnesota-Duluth.
Minnesota brings back last year's Big Ten Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in Harun Abda - one of two All-Big Ten First Team selections for the Gophers returning this season along with thrower Micah Hegerle.
The Gophers also host the Jack Johnson Invitational next weekend on Jan. 18-19 and the Snowshoe Open on Feb. 15.
'U' Wins Third-Straight Border Battle Dual
The Maroon & Gold outscored the Badgers 87-74 at the meet as Minnesota has now swept the Border Battle every year since the event returned in 2015.
Border Battle on Deck
The Camp Randall Memorial Sports Centers ("The Shell") hosts this weekend's Border Battle with field events beginning at 11:30 a.m. CT and field events starting at 12 p.m.
Gophers Claim 12 Titles in Opener
The Gophers throwers added a pair of titles in assistant coach Matt Conly first home event with the Maroon & Gold.
