The University of Minnesota men’s track and field team sent a group of throwers down to the Mark Messersmith Invitational, on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. Minnesota had participants in throw in four events on Friday.
Mark Jennings and Logan Hussung had top five finishes in the shot put. Jennings landed a throw of 56-2 ½ (17.13m) for fourth place and Hussung finished with a mark of 53-7 ¾ (16.35m) to take fifth overall.
The Gophers had five throwers compete in the discus throw. Trey Davis led all Gophers with a third place finish after throwing 178-3 (54.34m). Jennings took fourth with a mark of 174-9 (53.236m) and Justin Barber finished fifth with a toss of 169-8 (51.71m). Hussung finished eighth 162-0 (49.39m) and Dominique Howard took 10th 154-10 (47.19m).
Jake Malm tosses the javelin 152-0 (46.34m) to finish eighth in the event.
The Golden Gophers who are ranked No. 25 in the country will next compete at the Big Ten Outdoor Championship next weekend on the campus of the University of Wisconsin. Action begins Friday May 11 in Madison and will continue through Sunday May 13.
