PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Nick Hutton and John Simons each recorded Minnesota top-10 all-time performances on Sunday at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford to pace a small contingency of Gopher distance runners at the meet.
Hutton's time of 3:42.73 was a personal record for the senior All-American and was the top time in his section on Sunday. The performance was also Minnesota's top time this year in the 1,500 meters.
Simons also posted the fifth-fastest time ever at Minnesota in the 5,000 meter run, clocking a time of 13:49.65 for a new personal record. Andrew Larsen also competed in the 5,000 meter run on Sunday in Palo Alto, finishing in 14:17.97.

Leonard "Buddy" Edelen became the first man to run a marathon faster than two hours and 15 minutes in 1963.
