ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (GopherSports.com) – Jon Lehman kicked off the 2014 NCAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships for the Minnesota men’s indoor track & field program with a 10th-place showing in the weight throw.
The Gopher captain cleared 20.90 meters (68-07 ft.) for the day as the first of three Gophers competing at the NCAA championships this weekend.
Lehman closed out his indoor career with an impressive performance for the 2014 season. A native of Coon Rapids, Minn., Lehman set the school record in the weight throw earlier this year at the Snowshoe Open with his throw of 22.98 meters (75-05 ft.).
The senior captain for the Gophers has four individual wins this season - the Snowshoe Open, the Bill Bergan Invitational, the Iowa State Classic and the Northwest Open.
The Second Team All-Big Ten honoree finished second in the weight throw at the conference meet earlier this month with a toss of 22.68 meters (74-05 ft.) and will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Albuquerque, N.M.
Wieland, Wiebke Earn Academic All-America
A three-time Academic All-American, Wieland represented the Maroon & Gold on the Second Team while Wiebke picked up his first career honor as a Third Team selection.
Mead Wins USATF 10,000 Meters
Mead’s title on Friday snapped Galen Rupp’s streak of eight consecutive USATF 10,000 meter championships.
Incoming Gophers Earn Track & Field Honors
Dawson LaRance was named the Montana Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year and Hunter Lucas was named the North Dakota Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
