Steve White is in his fifth season as a volunteer assistant coach working with the Golden Gopher pole vaulters. White's charges annually are a stronghold of the Minnesota team. Joe Plencner was the Big Ten indoor runner-up in 2009, while Ben Peterson won the 2008 Big Ten indoor title. Peterson's runner-up finish in the 2008 outdoor meet helped the pole vaulters score 20 points in the event with four Gophers placing in the top eight. Before working at Minnesota, White coached at St. John's, St. Thomas, Tech High School and Armstrong High School. White earned All-America honors during his college career at North Central College (Ill.), graduting in 1993.
