The Maroon & Gold continue the 2017 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Penn State's Nittany Lion Outdoor Track.
The University of Minnesota men's track & field program opened up the 108th annual Drake Relays on Thursday night with four top-10 finishes by the Maroon & Gold.
Three members of the Maroon & Gold picked up personal records to go with their wins including true freshman Luke May's victory in the javelin.
The Maroon & Gold started the two-day competition with wins from Mitch Hechsel (800 meters), Evan Ferlic (1,500 meters) and Luca Wieland (shot put).
All-American alum Sean Donnelly set a new University of Minnesota Fieldhouse record in the weight throw.

Indoor: Competed in events at the Jack Johnson Classic, Iowa State Classic, and the Snowshoe Open. • Capped off his season in the one mile run with a sixth place finish in his heat at the B1G Indoor Championship. Outdoor: Ran for the Maroon and Gold at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Drake Relays, and the UW La Crosse Eagle Open.

Indoor: In the 1 mile run at the 2014 Northwest Open placed 5th with a time of 4:16.14 while competing unattached • at the Jack Johnson Classic, finished 13th with a time of 4:19.53. Outdoor: Placed second in the 800 meters at the 2014 Holst Invitational with a time of 1:55.48 competing unattached • placed second in the 1500 meters at the Hamline Invitational with a time of 3:55.82 • finished 12th in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:57.53 at the Musco Twilight • at the 2014 UW La Crosse Qualifier finished 12th in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:00.90.

Wieland, Wiebke Earn Academic All-America
A three-time Academic All-American, Wieland represented the Maroon & Gold on the Second Team while Wiebke picked up his first career honor as a Third Team selection.
Mead Wins USATF 10,000 Meters
Mead’s title on Friday snapped Galen Rupp’s streak of eight consecutive USATF 10,000 meter championships.
Incoming Gophers Earn Track & Field Honors
Dawson LaRance was named the Montana Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year and Hunter Lucas was named the North Dakota Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
