2012 Season - Indoor: Competed in a total of seven events for the indoor season • finished second in the 800 meters at the Bethel Invite with a time of 1:55.47 • placed third in the 800m at the Snowshoe Open (1:53.99) • ran a season-best mile at the Jack Johnson Classic (4:14.06) • also competed in the 4x400m relay during the season. Outdoor: Competed in a total of six events for the outdoor season • posted a time of 3:56.39 in the 1,500 meters at the Big Ten Championships • ran the second leg of the 4x1,600-meter relay team that finished third at the Drake Relays with a time of 16:50.07 • won the 1,500m at the Golden Bear Twilight (3:52.34) • finished fourth in the 1,500m at the Stanford Invite (3:50.33) • Academic All-Big Ten.
2011 SeasonIndoor:competed at the Snowshoe Open in the mile run and finished with a time 4:23.84·ran at the Iowa State Classic in the 3,000 meters and finished with the time 8:27.74Outdoor:competed at the St. Thomas Quad in the 5,000 meters and placed second (14:37.42).
2010 Season - Indoor: Competed in four meets • top mile time was 4:19.22 at Jack Johnson Classic • clocked a 3,000-meter time of 8:45.54 at the Northwest Open. Outdoor: Ran in four meets • placed sixth at the Iowa Musco Twilight Meet in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:51.96.
Cross Country -A two-year team member • raced in four events as a sophomore in 2010.
High School: A 2007 graduate of Lakeville South High School • high school coach was Mike Mader • All-Lake Conference honoree in cross country and track as a senior • earned eight varsity letters, three in cross country, two in track and two in Nordic skiing.
Personal: Born Nov. 26, 1988 • civil engineering major • parents are Jerry and Jane Volz • has a younger sister Michelle, who is a freshman on the Gopher women's cross country/track team • spent one year attending Colorado School of Mines • served as a team manager for the Gopher men's track team in 2009 • enjoys playing golf and trekking through the Boundary Waters.
