The Maroon & Gold continue the 2017 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Penn State's Nittany Lion Outdoor Track.
The University of Minnesota men's track & field program opened up the 108th annual Drake Relays on Thursday night with four top-10 finishes by the Maroon & Gold.
Three members of the Maroon & Gold picked up personal records to go with their wins including true freshman Luke May's victory in the javelin.
The Maroon & Gold started the two-day competition with wins from Mitch Hechsel (800 meters), Evan Ferlic (1,500 meters) and Luca Wieland (shot put).
The Gophers totaled 282 Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2015-16 academic year.

Indoor: Did not see action. Outdoor: Won the 5,000 meter at the St. Thomas Tommie Twilight with a time of 14:33.36.
2015 | REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON
Indoor: Competed at the Northwest Open (winning the one mile), the Iowa State Classic, and the B1G Indoor Championships. Outdoor: At the Musco Twilight finished ninth in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:31.32 • finished 18th in the 1500 meters at the UW La Crosse Eagle Invitational with a time of 4:00.20.

Indoor: Did not compete. Outdoor: Competing unattached at the 2014 MAC Invitational, placed 4th in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:57.19 • placed third unattached in the 1500 meters at the Meet of the UnSaintly.

Wieland, Wiebke Earn Academic All-America
A three-time Academic All-American, Wieland represented the Maroon & Gold on the Second Team while Wiebke picked up his first career honor as a Third Team selection.
Mead Wins USATF 10,000 Meters
Mead’s title on Friday snapped Galen Rupp’s streak of eight consecutive USATF 10,000 meter championships.
Incoming Gophers Earn Track & Field Honors
Dawson LaRance was named the Montana Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year and Hunter Lucas was named the North Dakota Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
