The Maroon & Gold continue the 2017 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Penn State's Nittany Lion Outdoor Track.
The Gophers also added three top-10 all-time performances on Friday from Mitch Hechsel, Luke May and Obsa Ali.
Three members of the Maroon & Gold picked up personal records to go with their wins including true freshman Luke May's victory in the javelin.
Gian Ferretti posted a third-place finish in his outdoor season debut while Mac Riedy finished ninth with his best throw of the season.
The Maroon & Gold started the two-day competition with wins from Mitch Hechsel (800 meters), Evan Ferlic (1,500 meters) and Luca Wieland (shot put).

Indoor: At the 2014 Northwest Open finished 8th unattached in the weight throw with a mark of 15.67 meters (51-05.00) • in weight throw competition unattached at the 2014 Jack Johnson Classic finished 22nd with a mark of 14.27 meters (46-10.00) • at the Snowshoe Open placed 15th unattached in the weight throw with a mark of 14.45 meters (47-05.00). Outdoor: At the 2014 Hamline Invational placed 6th unattached in the hammer with a throw of 48.97 meters (160-08) • placed third unattached in the hammer with a throw of 50.02 meters (164-01) at the Holst Invitational • at the Carleton Relays finished seventh unattached in the hammer with a throw of 47.87 meters (157-00) • placed 5th in the hammer with a throw of 47.83 meters (156-00) at the Tom Cat Twilight • finished third in the hammer at the SMU Cardinal Open with a throw of 50.56 meters (165-10) • at the Meet of the UnSaintly finished 6th in the hammer with a throw of 47.56 meters (156-00) • placed 6th in the Mark Messersmith Invitational with a mark of 50.12 meters (164-05).

Wieland, Wiebke Earn Academic All-America
A three-time Academic All-American, Wieland represented the Maroon & Gold on the Second Team while Wiebke picked up his first career honor as a Third Team selection.
Mead Wins USATF 10,000 Meters
Mead’s title on Friday snapped Galen Rupp’s streak of eight consecutive USATF 10,000 meter championships.
Incoming Gophers Earn Track & Field Honors
Dawson LaRance was named the Montana Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year and Hunter Lucas was named the North Dakota Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
