The Minnesota 4x100 meter relay squad of Jordan Charles, Brad Neumann, Jordan Webb and Luca Wieland clocked a 39.80 to finish 16th in the event while the mark just edged the previous University of Minnesota record from 2000 when Matt Taylor, Steve Burkholder, Adam Freed and Fred Rodgers ran a 39.95.
Mitch Hechsel and Nate Roese both clocked personal records in the 800 meters and Obsa Ali added a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to qualify for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.
The Maroon & Gold will compete in nine events at the regional while decathlete Luca Wieland has already punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 7-10, in Eugene, Ore.
Minnesota featured 11 individual scorers at the Big Ten meet -- six of those scorers contributed in multiple events.
Minnesota will close out the conference competition, held at Penn State’s Nittany Lion Outdoor Track, on Sunday.

Indoor: Won the triple jump at the Border Battle Duel with Wisconsin with a mark of 14.70 meters (48-02.75 ft.). Outdoor: Led the Maroon and Gold to victory in the 4x100 relay at the Sun Angel Classic with a time of 40.29. • Won the 100 meter dash at the Tom Cat Twilight with a time of 10.50 seconds. • Finished sixth in the triple jump at the Big Ten Championships with a mark of 15 meters.

Indoor: In the triple jump event, won the Northwest Open and the Wisconsin Duel. • Finished fifth in the Jack Johnson Classic in the 60 meter dash. Outdoor: Claimed wins in the triple jump at the Tom Cat Twilight, in the 100 meter dash at the Golden Bear Twilight, and in the 4x100 meter relay at the UW La Crosse Eagle Invitational.

Indoor: At the 2014 Northwest Open finished second in the triple jump unattached with a jump of 14.47 meters (46-05.25) • at the 2014 Jack Johnson Classic competed in the 60 meter dash unattached and finished 29th with a time of 7.22 seconds and in the triple jump finished second with a jump of 14.17 meters (46-06.00) • at the same meet placed 18th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.06 seconds while competing unattached • placed 5th in the 60 meter dash at the 2014 Snowshoe Open with a time of 7.11 seconds and won the triple jump with a mark of 14.49 meters (47-06.50) unattached. Outdoor: At the 2014 Baldy Castillo Invitational, won the triple jump with a mark of 15.60 meters (51-02.25) • placed 6th in the Stanford Invitational long jump with a 14.22 meters (46-08.00) • won the triple jump at the Tom Cat Twilight.

Wieland, Wiebke Earn Academic All-America
A three-time Academic All-American, Wieland represented the Maroon & Gold on the Second Team while Wiebke picked up his first career honor as a Third Team selection.
