Through five scored events, the Maroon & Gold sit in ninth with four points, having scored in the 3,000 meters and the distance medley relay.
Obsa Ali nearly matched his personal record in the 5,000 meters as the Gophers opened competition in Ames.
The Maroon & Gold were led by a 1-2 finish in the heptathlon by Teddy Frid and John Uchytil, who both posted personal records in the seven-event competition.
Frid paces the competition with 2,964 points following Friday's 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump events.
The Gophers, who have now won all four dual competitions with the Badgers since the event returned to the schedule in 2015, earned nine event titles on the day.
