With a winning throw of 65.34 meters (214-04 ft.) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, Hegerle earned his second career Big Ten title in the hammer throw as a senior after winning the event as a redshirt freshman in 2010.

2010 Season Indoor: Threw the weight in seven meets • an NCAA provisional qualifier • placed fifth in the Big Ten Championships with a season-best heave of 64-2 1/2, the sixth-best throw in Gopher history and a Minnesota freshman record. Outdoor: Competed in the hammer and discus in the NCAA Preliminary Meet • placed 19th in hammer prelim (195-0), 25th in discus prelims (167-0) • won the Big Ten hammer title with a throw of 208-3 • added a fourth-place finish in the discus (170-1) • won the Musco Twilight hammer title with a season-best effort of 211-5, the second-best throw in Gopher history and a freshman record • set the Minnesota freshman hammer record three times • won three hammer titles during the season • won the Macalester Twilight title in the discus with a season-best of 175-6 • an Academic All-Big Ten honoree • varsity letterwinner.
