The Gophers contingency will head to the West region preliminary meet in Austin, Texas (University of Texas) with competition set for May 23-25. Qualifiers from the west regional will compete at the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
With 35 team points, the Gophers are still in the hunt for a team title with Nebraska leading the way with 46.5 points and Wisconsin in second at 44.5.
A day after helping the Gophers to the squad's third 4x800 meter relay title in as many years, Travis Burkstrand and Harun Abda put together a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters on Saturday in front of a sellout crowd of 14,504.
2012 Season - Indoor: Did not compete. Outdoor: NCAA West Preliminary competitor in discus, recording the seventh-best throw in school history (183-3, or 55.85m) finished sixth in the discus at the Big Ten Championships with a throw of 182-1 (55.50m) won the discus at the Texas Relays with a throw of 181-7 (55.34m) also won the Bolstorff Twilight (179-7) and Hamline Invite (174-10) placed third at the Aztec Invite with a throw of 170-0 (51.81m) Academic All-Big Ten.
High School:A 2010 graduate of Ames High School high school coach was Pat Lawler 2010 Iowa state champion in discus with a throw of 186-10 two-time Central Iowa Metropolitan League champion holds school record in discus (192-11) also lettered twice in football.
Personal: Born December 3, 1991 intends to major in computer science son of Monica Howard-Martin and Judson Wilmott has two siblings, Erin Martin and Devin Wilmott sister, Erin, played volleyball at Minnesota (2001-04) enjoys playing Settlers of Catan.
