The Minnesota 4x100 meter relay squad of Jordan Charles, Brad Neumann, Jordan Webb and Luca Wieland clocked a 39.80 to finish 16th in the event while the mark just edged the previous University of Minnesota record from 2000 when Matt Taylor, Steve Burkholder, Adam Freed and Fred Rodgers ran a 39.95.
Mitch Hechsel and Nate Roese both clocked personal records in the 800 meters and Obsa Ali added a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to qualify for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.
Mitch Hechsel and Nate Roese advanced in the 800 meters while Derek Wiebke moved on in the 1,500 meters.
The Maroon & Gold will compete in nine events at the regional while decathlete Luca Wieland has already punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 7-10, in Eugene, Ore.
Minnesota featured 11 individual scorers at the Big Ten meet -- six of those scorers contributed in multiple events.

Indoor: Competed for the Golden Gophers at the Northwest Open (winning the 800 meter), the Wisconsin Duel, the Iowa State Classic, and the B1G Indoor Championships. Outdoor: Ran in events at the Baldy Castillo Invitational and at the Musco Twilight. • Led the Gophers to victory in the 4x800 meter relay at the Drake Relays with a time of 7:23.54.

Indoor: At the 2014 Northwest Open competed unattached in the 800 meters and finsihed 3rd with a time of 1:55.66 • placed 12th at the Jack Johnson Classic in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.69 while competing unattached • competed unattached at the Snowshoe Open in the 800 meters and placed second with a time of 1:52.85. Outdoor: At the 2014 Musco Twilight finished 7th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.95 • unattached at the 2014 Hamline Invitational won the 1500 meters with a time of 3:55.19.
Graduated from Kasson-Montorville Senior High School with high honors in 2013 • the 2013 MSHSL Class AA runner-up in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:53 • competed in three events at the 2013 state meet and also placed in the meet as a sophomore in 2011 • won a total of six conference titles as a prep including four in his senior season • high school coaches were Erik Myran and Travis Robertson • a three-time alll-conference honoree (twice in track, once in cross country) • earned a total of six athletic letters as a prep (four in track, one in cross country, one in basketball).

A three-time Academic All-American, Wieland represented the Maroon & Gold on the Second Team while Wiebke picked up his first career honor as a Third Team selection.
