A day after helping the Gophers to the squad's third 4x800 meter relay title in as many years, Travis Burkstrand and Harun Abda put together a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters on Saturday in front of a sellout crowd of 14,504.
The Minnesota men's outdoor track and field team scored 99 points in a winning effort at the 2013 Macalester/Bolstorff Twilight on Thursday night. The Gophers earned four individual titles for the program's second-straight team title at the meet.
The Gophers claimed nine individual titles at the Hamline Invitational and placed multiple competitors in the 800-meter run, the 1,500-meter run, the high jump, the pole vault and the discus throw.
2012 Season - Indoor: Anchored the distance medley relay team that finished second at the Holiday Inn Invitational with a time of 10:03.83 • competed in the mile run at the Holiday Inn Invitational (4:19.45), Jack Johnson Classic (4:18.90), Bill Bergan Invite (4:17.18), and Snowshoe Open (4:21.95). Outdoor: Finished third in the 800 meters at the Golden Bear Twilight with a time of 1:51.98 • competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the ASU Invite (9:47.04).
2011 Season:Redshirted the indoor and outdoor seasons.
High School: A 2010 graduate of Coon Rapids High School • high school coaches were Denny Green and Don Timm • state champion as a junior in the 1,600m at the 2009 Minnesota Class AA track meet with a time of 4:16.56 • finished third in 2010 • placed ninth in the 2009 Minnesota Class AA cross country meet • Northwest Suburban Conference champion once in cross country and three times in track • two-time all-state performer • set school record in 1,600m • also a two-time letterwinner in basketball • graduated with honors.
