The Gophers contingency will head to the West region preliminary meet in Austin, Texas (University of Texas) with competition set for May 23-25. Qualifiers from the west regional will compete at the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
With a winning throw of 65.34 meters (214-04 ft.) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, Hegerle earned his second career Big Ten title in the hammer throw as a senior after winning the event as a redshirt freshman in 2010.
Minnesota returns to action on Saturday at the Hamline Meet of the Unsaintly.
2012 Season - Indoor: Placed fourth in the weight throw at the Northwest Open with a distance of 52-0 1/2 (15.86m) • also competed in the weight throw at the Iowa State Classic (50-9 1/4) and Snowshoe Open (53-10 1/2). Outdoor: Competed in a total of 13 events of the outdoor season • competed in the discus at the Big Ten Championships with a throw of 170-7 (52.00m) • also competed in the hammer throw with a toss of 164-7 (50.16m) • finished second in the discus at the Bolstorff Twilight with a toss of 178-4 (54.36m) • placed fifth in discus at the UNI Open (169-8) • finished second in discus (167-5) and hammer (176-0) at the Hamline Invite • placed third at the Drake Alternates (159-08, 48.66m) • finished fourth in the hammer at the Bolstorff Twilight with a throw of 176-9 (53.88m).
2011 Season: Redshirted both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Qualified for Junior Nationals in discus with a throw of 171-5
