University of Minnesota men's tennis player Andres Osorio (Quito, Ecuador) went 1-1 today, falling in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Big Ten Singles Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich. Osorio, a senior, went 3-1 at the fall season-ending tournament.
Osorio, seeded 11th, downed No. 5 seed Christian Tempke of Northwestern, 6-2, 6-2, in the round of 16 before falling to No. 4 seed Nolan Polley of Wisconsin, 6-4, 6-4. Osorio finished the fall season with a 5-2 record.
Last season, Nic Edlefsen went 6-1 at the Big Ten Singles Championship in East Lansing, Mich., to capture the consolation title. In 2004, Edlefsen and Avery Ticer advanced to the semifinals of the fall season-ending tournament. Minnesota's last Big Ten Singles Champion was Chris Wettengel in 2003.
